Zhiguang Energy Storage has won the bid for the Guangdong Huadian Shanwei Energy Storage Project, featuring a cascaded high-voltage semi-solid-state lithium iron phosphate (LFP) energy storage system. This landmark project is the nation’s first frequency-regulation standalone energy storage plant that integrates cascaded high-voltage technology with semi-solid-state batteries, marking a critical step forward in the application of next-generation storage technologies and grid security in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

The project combines both research demonstration and large-scale application value, offering significant support for renewable energy integration and flexible grid regulation in the region. The key scope of procurement for the cascaded high-voltage semi-solid-state LFP system includes:

System Architecture: Comprised of fully liquid-cooled cascaded storage units, each consisting of 9 battery-converter integrated cabins, 1 grid-connection cabin, 1 energy management system, and a grid-simulation model.

Integration Requirements: The storage system adopts an outdoor prefabricated cabin design, integrating battery clusters, cascaded PCS, BMS, full liquid-cooling temperature control, fire safety, and intelligent auxiliary systems for a highly integrated solution.

As the first standalone energy storage plant in China to combine cascaded high-voltage technology with semi-solid-state batteries, the project provides an important engineering practice for addressing lithium battery safety challenges and improving system cycling efficiency.

Once completed, it will enhance peak-shaving capacity for the eastern Guangdong power grid while contributing critical data for the standardization and commercialization of new energy storage technologies, thereby accelerating the construction of Guangdong’s next-generation power system.
